Act 1 Scene 1:
Desdemona: I overheard my husband speaking to Iago about smothering me. What can I do?
Emelia: You must not put up with this any longer my lady.
Hands Desdemona a knife
Desdemona: No, I love him too much. Between every up and down we may have, I must remain loyal to him. I am willing to die for him. Love is the very thing that makes life worth living. I do not want to live if it is without him. My husband, Othello, is my highest authority and I will not commit any acts to defy him. I love Othello. I love him more than life itself.
Emelia: You have too much faith in him.
Desdemona: Is there such a thing?
Emelia: My lady, if your husband does not trust you, is he really your husband? He truly believes you have been unfaithful. What kind of love is that?
Desdemona: I suppose you have a point.
Emelia: Take this knife.
Desdemona grabs it.
You must defend yourself. If he does not try to hurt you, then let him be. However, violence must be reciprocated.
Desdemona exits.
Act 1 scene 2
Desdemona is asleep in bed. Othello walks in.
Othello: I must do this. She has betrayed me in the worst way possible and I cannot allow her to live any longer.
Desdemona wakes up.
Desdemona: What is the matter my lord?
Othello: Take this moment to pray and confess your sins, for it will be your last chance to do so.
Desdemona: You are going to kill me.
Othello: Don’t bother begging me for mercy. You have committed a horrible crime, that only a whore would participate in.
Desdemona: Please do not call me that. I will tell you one more time. I have not committed any acts that suggest any sort of unfaithfulness to you. Where did this idea even come from?
Othello: Iago and I have been conversing, but that’s all I will tell you. Do you have any last words, thot?
Desdemona: I strongly advise against your decision to murder me, my lord. You will regret this for eternity.
Othello: Be quiet!
Starts to strangle Desdemona. Desdemona pulls out her knife and slits Othello’s throat. Othello bleeds out.
Desdemona: Now my lord will be with one to rot in hell.
Act 1 scene 3
Desdemona calls Emelia in her room to deal with the body, but Iago, Cassio, and others follow.
Emelia: You did it my lady!
Iago: What have you done, whore?
Desdemona: Don’t speak to me in such a tone. Also, is it true that you have been telling lies to my husband about me having an affair?
Iago: I simply told him what I believed to be true. I’ve seen the way you and Cassio look at each other. It’s the only explanation.
Cassio (to Iago): Are you insane? My relationship with Desdemona is nothing but platonic. Is it true that you have been telling Othello that me and her have been together sexually?
Iago: Again, I merely told him my opinion.
Desdemona (to Iago): You are the reason my husband is dead!
Cassio: You deserve to die!
Cassio pulls out sword and Iago tries to run. Desdemona and Emelia hold him by the arms to restrain him. Cassio stabs him until he dies.
Act 1 scene 4
Emelia: Cassio, you must run away before the police come and arrest you for murder. Same for you, Desdemona.
Desdemona: Cassio, I cannot do this alone. Please, let’s run away together.
Cassio: Of course, anything for you.
Desdemona: We should leave now. There is no time to waste.
Act 1 scene 5
It’s been 6 months, and Desdemona and Cassio have unexpectedly fallen in love.
Othello: I should have trusted her. She never did a single thing wrong. She was pure and devoted to me completely. Now, she has actually fallen in love with another man, the one who I thought she cheated with, and I am a ghost. If you believe something is true for long enough, it becomes true.
how the plot goes from othello trying to kill desdemona to desdemona killing othello and then running away with cassio adds good drama content and its good! bravo! - EO
